It’s educational value can be debated, but there is no denying Sir Mix-A-Lot’s 1992 hit “Baby Got Back” is a hip-hop classic. The song has been used in everything from commercials to movies, and, now “performed with a live orchestra” can be marked off the raunchy ditty’s bucket list. With the help of an orchestra manned by contemporary composer Gabriel Prokofiev, the Seattle rap vet recently performed the upscale version of the track in his hometown at Benaroya Hall. Mix was joined on stage by a couple dozen middle-aged Caucasian women. The turn-up was real. Check out the footage, above.

There may not a have been a more polarizing event in the music industry, last week, than the discovery of two videos showing a young Justin Bieber gleefully telling racist jokes. While frequent collaborators like the Young Money camp, Soulja Boy and Migos defended the Biebs, Ice Cube, Lupe Fiasco and Lord Jamar expressed their disdain for the singer’s actions.
Earlier today, Usher, who helped discover the young singer, and wrote the original song that Bieber flipped into a racist mockery in the second video that surfaced, finally broke his silence about his protégé’s inexcusable actions. Posting a picture of him and Bieber on Instagram which looks to have been taken around the time the racist videos were shot, the R&B star posted the following statement:
“At my core, I am a person that supports growth and understands without judgement, that growth often comes as a result of pain and continues effort. As I have watched Justin Bieber navigate difficult waters as a young man, I can tell you that he hasn’t always chosen the path of his greatest potential, but he is unequivocally not a racist. What he was 5 years ago was a naive child who did not understand the negative power and degradation that comes from playing with racial slurs. What he is now is a young man faced with an opportunity to become his best self, an example to the millions of kids that follow him to not make the same mistakes.”
What do you think? Is the Canadian pop star getting a pass? Or, should people let the past be the past?
Fans never thought they would see the day, but it happened. G-Unit finally re-united during 50 Cent’s set at Summer Jam. That includes Tony Yayo, Lloyd Banks, and Young Buck (no Game).
The clique surprised everybody after Nas finished his set. The Summer Jam audience was in an uproar as G-Unit performed some of their hits — including Lloyd Banks’ “On Fire.” Fabolous, along with dozens of others, joined the crew on stage for the historic moment. This is 50 Cent’s first time headlining Summer Jam in a decade.
Unfortunately, things weren’t all celebratory. A fight broke out on stage as G-Unit was performing. Slow from Slow Bucks was was angered as security refused to let him join G-Unit on stage. Lloyd Banks also looked upset about the situation. Fabolous had to calm down and walk Slow off the stage. Hot 97′s Ebro Darden also had to talk with Bucks to de-escalate the situation. A source at Summer Jam says that Slow has problems with one of the crew members of 50 Cent.
Below are some images from the incident. The first is Slow conversing with an unconfirmed person on stage, and Pecas from Def Jam is seen trying to diffuse the situation in the second.
